SERVICES

At Malua we believe our “off field” performance is almost as important as our “on field” results hence we strive to ensure the business is running like a well oiled machine.

Client Communication

To enhance the experience of racehorse ownership for our clients, as an owner you will receive pre and post race reports when your horses are racing as well as bi-monthly voice reports, trial and occasional trackwork videos and photos of the horse. You will also be notified whenever your horse moves into or out of the stables to spell or for pre-training etc.

90% of communication will be via email however we are always accessible to our owners and can be contacted anytime by phone.

A Normal Racing Program

The following is provided as an indicative guide to the time it takes to prepare a horse from a spell until it is ready to race.
Obviously circumstances differ for each horse depending on their maturity, constitution, how long they have been spelling for and what races they are being targeted for.

Weeks 1 to 3
Slow trotting and cantering work in the morning.
Walk and/or swim most afternoons.

Weeks 4 to 6
Increase the tempo to three-quarter pace on alternate mornings of the week with a gradual increase in distance in increments of 200 metres.
Walk and swim most afternoons.

Weeks 7 to 10
On three mornings per week undertake fast work by having the horse travel at close to full speed at the end of each fast work session. Length and total work and distance of fast work progressively increased over this period until the horse is ready to trial over 800m to 1000m at the end of week 10. Walk and swim most afternoons. Performance and recovery determine the direction and workload a horse can handle. As a general rule, up to 100 days is needed to get a horse fully fit.
