Malua Racing is the exciting new training partnership between experienced Group 1 winning trainers Troy Corstens and John Sadler.
Associated for many years through Sadler’s friendship with Troy’s father Leon, Malua Racing aims to excel both on and off the track using the owner communication and buying expertise of Corstens as well as the expert horsemanship of astute trainer Sadler.
Corstens has been responsible for the purchase and sale many stars of the turf including International Champion Sprinter Starspangledbanner as well as Group 1 winner Helenus.
Over the past ten years he has developed one of the best updating and communications systems in the industry, meaning Malua Racing owners will have greater access to information on their horses than ever previously possible.
“It’s vital that owners feel a daily involvement with their horses and they will get that at Malua Racing” said Corstens.
Sadler on the other hand has trained Group 1 winners such as Jolly Old Mac, Pressmans Choice, Bohemiath and Kenvain while in recent years working for Lloyd Williams, Sadler put the polish on horses the ilk of Efficient, Zipping and C’est La Guerre.
Malua Racing will be based at Flemington and will initially start with 26 boxes, focusing on “quality rather than quantity”. With a smaller group of high quality horses, Sadler will be better able to focus on each individual horses needs.
“We don’t want to be a factory, crunching out horse after horse,” he says. “We really want to concentrate on our strike rate and really have city or group class horses where possible”.
Recently retired Group 1 winning jockey Brent Stanley completes the team and will work under Sadler as an assistant trainer. A noted judge of horses in work, Stanley is yet another fantastic asset to the Malua team.
With 25 horses in work Malua Racing officially kicked things off on December 1st 2010. Dubawi Gold set the tone of things to come being the first city runner for Malua Racing and appropriately, the first city winner.
